Essay Writing Challenge: TELEPORTED TO 2050: WHAT WILL EDUCATION LOOK LIKE

Education is a compilation of knowledge, skills and understanding which person gains during his/her institutional life (school, college and university). In world today education cannot be well-defined without technology. By means of oxford dictionary technology is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purpose. JEAN PIAGET a Swiss Clinical Psychologist famous for his work on child development. He emphasizes mainly on the education of children. As a Director in International Bureau of Education in 1934 he said that
“Only education is capable of Saving Our Societies from Possible Downfall." Whether forceful or steady.
He highlights that the principal goal of education is to create men and women who are capable of doing new things not simply repeating what other generations have done. From that day the use of technology begins. The advancement in technology increases in the early phase of 21st century. Today we stand in the era where world is in our palm, every second information changes from a click. It cannot be possible without education. But before discussing about the envision of education in 2050 we have to know about education in past and its growth via technology till today.

In former times when internet based education was only a dream which was impossible to fulfil.  When resources of information are only books and knowledge of internet is an additional stuff. Not going so far, the period when I used to go to school as a student. We depend on books for information and research. Library visits, newspaper surfing was norm and pupils at that time consumes and retain the knowledge. Nowadays with the progression of science and technology social networking has pivotal role not in our personal life but also has great importance in professional life. From toddlers to the age described by Shakespeare we are all mesmerized by the fascinating world of devices which changes with the blink of an eye. When I served my school as an educator the whole system of learning changed. The students of today’s age when blackboard converted to whiteboard, use of chalk is limited now and board markers take their place can easily gather data, transform it and ready to explore the world. The curriculum of institutions changes every day. Subjective assessment now changes to objective and best choice questions. Coaching and aptitude test is the first step towards the challenges of higher level of education. Albert-Einstein share his thought on technology used in Education that
“I Fear the Day That Technology Will Surpass Our Human Interaction. The World Will Have a Generation of Idiots.” - Albert Einstein

In 21st century the amalgamation of technology in education modify the way of learning and teaching, how it is received and delivered. Professional education on contrary is portraying a win/loss relation. In university, E-books and Online learning make education stress free for both students and educators. Today, it facilitates the teaching but decreases the ability of students to brainstorm ideas and create novel concepts. The lectures are more based on presentation and project oriented rather than concept based. Teachers at this stage only come to read their presentation and do not bother about understanding of students. The epoch of education has truly changed beside degree certain courses are offered by renowned universities throughout the world so we can add a type of spice to our career which can boost our job placement. Last year when I had an opportunity to go for a research course where I saw the impact of technology in education. Online lectures and assignments via emails, a type of virtual education I personally experience. Still students have pen and paper to write but a number of students having smartphones and tablets for it. The progression in digitization from basic computers to latest smartphones and iPhone revolutionized the educational system of the biosphere today, technology bring about sweep changes in education what about 33 years’ after? What else technology can do?

If at this point, I jump into 2050 and look out for “education system,” it will be just a thought as we imagine dinosaurs now. A concept of system will not exist in relation with education. I can even think of a generation who will not go after degrees to establish themselves; every nook and corner of world will be loaded with upgraded technologies based on abstract concepts rather than learning. A person will be able to bring its wild, abstract or imaginary thoughts into reality by commanding a machine, world will be in his/her hands but, he will not know a single function that machineries are performing. They will have everything but, yet know nothing.

I will move a little forward and can see a boy pressing his finger in front of a small house. Seconds later, that house will turn into a building and that finger will have sensory powers. I will be astonished and ask him how he do it, he will look surprise and hand over me a card of outlet selling this out. He does not know logic behind action but, he knows just names behind those actions. Our “education system” will be confined in name plates of numerous technological outlets selling products trading off with thinking and learning power of people. I can see a gaming zone type facility measuring intellect where our generation pass levels to prove “they are educated.” Infinite games are uploaded and they are in race of passing them out to be in list of intellectuals.

Visualization of 2050 education is more alarming than interesting one, when pupils rely more on machines than their abilities. Education become an activity. Student engage themselves in competency- based program not time base. The digitization decreases the quality of education, when socialization increase on devices. Everyone one behaves as an institute. Then revolution in education occurs again with the revival of institute and books.
“New Technology is Common; New Thinking is Rare” -Sir Peter Blake
